FAQ

WHAT IS POSTCARDS FOR PEACE?
Postcards For Peace is a UK based charity working primarily with schools, colleges, children and their parents to promote equality and diversity. We aim to help end discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religion.

We also plan to create activities which encourage an understanding between people from different backgrounds and create an environment in favour of equality and diversity. We also aim to raise awareness of issues relating to violence, bullying and human rights.

Many of projects will use postcards as the key education tool. We also sell a range of postcards which, as well as raising money for our work, are designed to spread messages of peace, non-violence, change, hope and support around the world.

ARE YOU A CHARITY?
Yes. We are a registered charity on England & Wales. Our Charity Registration is 1168645. Our trustees are listed here.

WHY POSTCARDS?
Although just a small piece of thick paper or cardboard, the postcard is an internationally recognised form of communication. A postcard may be very simple but it is also very flexible in it’s uses and we believe this makes it a fantastic educational tool. We have many different ways of using the humble postcard as a way of teaching peace and also for spreading positive messages around the world.

We offer a range of postcards for people to send to anyone, anywhere in the world. Users can share the postcards with family, friends, colleagues, complete strangers and maybe even politicians. We hope that receiving a postcard will prompt the recipient to log-on to find out more about the project and then send their own postcards, thus creating an ever expanding audience.

We hope to have a continually growing gallery of postcards for users to choose from and we also ask people around the world to contribute their own designs.

WHAT DESIGNS ARE ON THE POSTCARDS?
The Postcards For Peace team have created their own range of postcard designs and work with other professional designers, artists, photographers and illustrators to create others. We also ask supporters to submit their own designs. If we believe the design fits our criteria we may consider getting it printed to sell and raise funds for the charity.

We have received designs from all over the world and including some from celebrities. We hope to be able to sell signed, limited edition prints of celebrity artwork in the future.

We also hold an annual design competition for school children around the world.

I AM A DESIGNER/ILLUSTRATOR/PHOTOGRAPHER CAN I CREATE SOME POSTCARD DESIGNS FOR YOU?
Please contact us with your ideas.

DO YOU PAY DESIGNERS AND ILLUSTRATORS FOR THEIR POSTCARD DESIGNS?
Unfortunately, unless agreed beforehand in exceptional circumstances, we cannot pay for postcard designs submitted. However, the contributor of all printed postcards is always credited on the reverse of the postcard with a link to their website if applicable.

WHERE DOES DONATED OR RAISED MONEY GO?
Money donated or raised through the sale of items in our shop, goes towards funding our future work. We hope to organise workshops, school assemblies, conferences and more where the money will cover travel and the cost of handouts. Some of our planned lesson plans and resources will require the need for professional illustrators and copywriters and these will also be covered by the these funds.

In the future we may offer prizes for winners of our competitions and these will be funded by any donated money.

We will be transparent in how much money we raise and where it is used. As a registered charity, these will be made available publicly.

Any money raised as part of our Reach Out To Syria campaign will be split equally between four charities. Details of this campaign can be found here.
