Jazmine Franks joined the cast of Channel 4’s Hollyoaks in, as Esther, in 2010 when she was 18 years old.
She received great acclaim and a nomination for a British Soap Award in 2013, for a storyline which saw harrowing scenes of Esther being physical and mentally bullied. Such were the effects of the bullying and with nowhere left to turn, Esther decided to take her own life. Although unsuccessful, the attempted suicide left her requiring a liver transplant to save her life.
“As much as I loved getting my teeth stuck into such a heartbreaking story, I had to myself into the midst of a victim in order to do the script justice, which was very difficult.”
“To help me understand the emotions I spoke to young girls who had been through similar experiences as Esther. Some of the things I heard were awful and I will never understand why someone should be made to feel so weak.”
Jazmine has worked with the charity Beat Bullying and recently raised around £700 by completing a skydive.
She is joining Postcards For Peace as an ambassador to speak out against bullying and hopes to visit schools with us to help raise awareness of these issues and the effects they can have.
